Highlighting the Characteristics of UNNCAHS, Demonstrating Essential Qualities
-- ‘The History Club’ adds brand value and brings out students' elegant demeanor
On the afternoon of May 24th, 2019, an activity of "research and development of historical drama & exhibition of textbook drama" was held by UNNCAHS history club and teachers from the Chen Xianglong Studio of Teaching Excellence in Zhejiang Province. The activity was divided into two units, "historical drama observation" and "textbook drama research and discussion", and was broadcasted on Zhejiang educational resources network platform. Academic leaders of Chen Xianglong Studio of Teaching Excellence from all over Zhejiang province, Chen Tianning and Xu yuping, history teaching and research staff of the Teaching and Research Office of Ningbo Education Bureau, history teachers and students of the "four modernizations" class in High School Affiliated to Ningbo City all participated in the activity. Meanwhile, there are more than 30 parents who came to watch their children's performance and witnessed their growth.
The activity started with the performance of an original historical textbook drama --"Epic of Song Dynasty" by the history club. Through their own understanding of history, students used the form of textbook drama to interpret "Epic of Song Dynasty" vividly, which is adapted from "Three Rivers and Six Shores". The story is based on the ethnic confrontation in the Song dynasty, and the tortuous fates of two families and three protagonists. It takes place when a businessman’s son Lin Qingyu becomes an official, and reflects the competing political forces, the conflict between the development of commodity economy and the conventional ideas of Confucianism. Personal honor and disgrace are closely linked with the destiny of the country, which carries forward the responsibility of establishing a mind for patriotism, evokes modern citizens with the rages in history, and finds the longing for peace for thousands of generations. In the process of country’s development, the sense of social responsibility is gradually sublimated.
The scriptwriters of this show are Zhang Kexin, Wang Guanyin, Shao Hongkai, Yan Yuxuan and Wang Jiayun from senior grade one. Also, it was directed by Zhang kexin. More than 30 students from senior participated in the performance. The history teaching and research group of the school worked as the consultant for the performance, and after a month of elaborate rehearsal, the magnificent performance finally came out. This activity plays an important role in broadening students' horizon, improving their quality and developing their potential. The success of the performance is meaningful, because students had learned from not only the performance experience, but also the historical knowledge. Therefore, promoting learning is an additional achievement of this historical education.
The performance was followed up by a seminar. Zhang Rong, a teacher of UNNCAHS, gave a special lecture on "Development Strategy and Implementation Path of Historical Drama", and introduced the history, principles and ways of the development of student history textbook drama in our school. She reviewed the development of history drama in our school in the past 15 years and raised questions in three aspects: "why do we do this? How to do this? And what’s the result of doing this?" and shared the experience of history club’s project activities, which received positive comments from the participating teachers.
The course on producing historical drama was first developed by the history teachers’ group of UNNCAHS. Over the years, with the implementation of curriculum reform in ordinary senior high schools, and in the exploration and reflection of history teaching and learning practice, the history teachers’ group of UNNCAHS has been striving to pursue the "vivid" and "effective" classroom history teaching. They carried out various activities in the history club, which enriched the way of history learning, and cultivated and practiced the essential qualities of historical lessons.
UNNCAHS History Club has a wide influence in Ningbo city, and wins compliments from peers inside and outside the province. The history teaching and research group has developed the historical drama into a school-based elective course. In order to compile the curriculum and teaching materials, Ningbo teaching and research office has held two on-site meetings on the research and development of students' history drama in our school, and Chen Xianglong Studio of Teaching Excellence in Zhejiang Province has also conducted a live webcast in the province for two years.
This student historical drama research & development session and history textbook drama "Epic of Song Dynasty" performance were fully affirmed by experts and teachers who participated in the activities, and received online audience's positive comments and recommendations.
